MD Photography was created by myself, Malena (Gardner) DeJarnette, a native of Owensboro, Kentucky and a current resident of Hancock County, KY.
I have been interested in the photography field ever since a camera was put into my hands. While applying for college, I struggled with deciding what career path I was going to enter. Then my mom said to me "look around your room." When I discovered the hundreds of photographs staring back at me, plastered on the walls and in frames, I discovered my hobby could transform into my career. I applied to college with the goal of opening my own photography studio one day. I spent my college career as the yearbook editor and graduated in 2005 from Kentucky Wesleyan College with a Bachelors degree in Art and Communications.
I, however, went straight into the workforce upon completing school in order to gain more experience and make enough money to invest in quality photography equipment. I spent five years in the photojournalism field, with a position at a local newspaper. Gaining photojournalism field experience has helped me in finding a niche in photography.
"Sessions" with family and friends soon turned into word of mouth advertising that flourished into a successful business for me. After welcoming two children into the world, I decided to leave the 9-5 job and become self-employed, tackling photography and raising my kids full-time.
I am now a mother to five and operate out of my home studio located smack dab in the middle of a farm, a beautiful and free backdrop I attribute to God's creation. I have captured the 'big day' for over 100 couples and I stay quite busy throughout the off-season with lifestyle sessions of nearly every category.
My home studio and farm is located at 3045 Highway 69, Hawesville, KY.
I mainly book in the Hancock County and Greater Owensboro, KY areas, as well as southern Indiana, however, I LOVE to travel!
